Budget Speech 2022: When, where, and how to watch the address live

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana will be delivering the Budget speech today, detailing details of state expenditure.

Godongwana is also set to explain how President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address proposals will be prioritised as far as funding is concerned. Additionally, the address is set to outline how funding will be allocated to various spheres of government, departments and state entities.

This Budget Speech is set to be one of the nation’s most significant after Ramaphosa shared positive signs of a shift in policy direction during the 2022 SONA. However, it remains to be seen whether the Minister will fully support Ramaphosa’s ideas or if he will opt to take a different stance on the private sector leading job creation instead of the state itself.

When is the Budget Speech?

The 2022 Budget Speech will be delivered at 2PM on Wednesday and is set to be live-streamed across numerous social media platforms.

Where is the Budget Speech being delivered?

With Parliament devastated by the fire which broke out earlier this year, the Budget Speech will not be taking place at its usual location. Instead, Parliament spokesperson Moloto Mothapo has confirmed that the address will be taking place in the Good Hope Chamber.

“After considering various alternative venues, the meeting took a decision that, beyond the SONA, the sittings of the National Assembly – including the Budget Speech scheduled for February- must be retained within the precincts of Parliament, in the Good Hope Chamber. The Good Hope Chamber, historically utilised for the sittings of the Cape Legislative Assembly between 1854 and 1885, is one of the oldest meeting rooms of Parliament. It has essential technical capabilities and meets basic requirements for sittings of the House. It is one of the buildings of Parliament that has not been affected by the fire and has previously been used for National Assembly Mini-Plenaries. It has a seating capacity of 170 persons and permits 70 persons under Covid-19 social-distancing arrangements,”
