Brackenfell: EFF, Cape Party to stage counter-protests

Brackenfell High School in the Western Cape is likely to be a scene of chaos on Friday, 20 November 2020, as the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and Cape Party are set to clash over alleged racism at the learning institution.

The school caught the red berets attention – after it was reported that a group of parents held a private, unofficial matric ball that was only attended by white pupils. This prompted concerns of racism in the school, which it has denied.

EFF on Brackenfell alleged racism: ‘No one will stop us’

Ahead of the protest, the EFF has vowed to continue its fight against racism in South Africa and in schools.

“Racism has no place in South Africa. This is the land of our fore-bearers. We will occupy every space we want to occupy,” the red berets said.

The party said it was prepared to defend the country with its blood and bodies.

“We are always prepared to die for South Africa,” the EFF added.

“Today uPhephela will descend on Brackenfell to protest against perverted racism of the school, teachers and parents”

The Cape Party: ‘We are here to defend Brackenfell’

At the same time, the Cape Party, a small political formation, has encouraged its members and residents in general to come out in their numbers, to protect the school.

“We’re here to stand up for common sense. We’re here to stand up for solidarity with the school kids, the parents and the residents of Brackenfell. We’re here to stand up against EFF racism and show solidarity with the people here,” the organisation’s Jack Miller said in an interview with eNCA.

Miller has labelled the EFF as the most racist political party in the country. He has further disputed that the matric dance saga had anything to do with racism. Miller said it was not just the red berets, but also the African National Congress (ANC), who were using race to sow divisions and score political points.

“We were sold this dream of a rainbow nation and we believe that we can have a rainbow nation right here in an independent Western Cape,” he further said.

The City of Cape Town has urged residents to avoid the area.
