Bishop Akanjuna Opponents Told to ‘Petition God’

Reverend Canon William Ongeng, the Church of Uganda Provincial Secretary has told a section of Christians of the Diocese of Kigezi who are aggrieved over the election of Rev. Canon Gaddie Akanjuna as the 6th Bishop, to only petition to God who anoints his servants.

While addressing the press in Kabale on Friday ahead of the consecration, Rev. Ongeng said it is only God who anoints and removes his servants.

He therefore advised the petitioners against enthronement of the new bishop to send their petition to God but not courts of law.

Rev. Ongeng was leading a team from the Province of Church of Uganda in Kigezi to assess the preparations of the consecration and enthronement of Bishop Akanjuna which is slated May 29th 2022.

A section of Christians from Greater Kabale had petitioned Archbishop of Uganda Stephen Kazimba Mugalu over what they termed as irregularities in nomination and election of Rev. Gad Akanjuna who is set to replace Rt. Rev. Eng. George Bagamuhunda as the next Bishop of Kigezi Diocese.

Akanjuna will be enthroned and consecrated by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda His Grace the Most Reverend Dr Stephen Kazimba Mugalu at Kigezi High School Primary and President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to be the guest of honor.
