LONDON, UK | Xinhua | Raheem Sterling’s loan move from Chelsea to Arsenal was one of the standout deals completed late on the final day of the Premier League transfer window.

The 29-year-old sought a transfer after new Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca made it clear that Sterling would not be part of the first-team plans under his management. Sterling now provides Arsenal with an additional attacking option, while Chelsea offloads his substantial wages.

On a busy day for Chelsea, the club also secured Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho during the closing hours of the transfer window. Sancho joins Stamford Bridge on loan, with a clause obligating Chelsea to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old had a well-publicized falling out with Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag and spent the latter half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund. Although he was reintegrated into United’s pre-season activities, it was evident that Ten Hag was open to his departure.

Manchester United also confirmed a last-minute signing, with Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte completing his move from Paris Saint-Germain. Ugarte had been in Manchester for several days to finalize the transfer, which is expected to bolster United’s midfield and address the defensive lapses that have plagued the team over the past year. ■
