Beyoncé breaks record as most-nominated artist in Grammy history
Beyoncé has once again made history, becoming the most-nominated artist ever at the Grammy Awards.
She surpasses her husband, Jay-Z, she now holds a record-breaking 99 Grammy nominations. This is a milestone that reflects her impact on the music industry.
BEYONCÉ’S NOMINATIONS
Until now, the pair had been tied at 88 nominations each, but Beyoncé pulled ahead with the success of her latest album, Cowboy Carter.
She now leads the race for this year’s Grammy Awards, scoring 11 nominations across several major categories. These categories include best album, best country album, and song of the year, according to Vibe.
Beyoncé’s triumph in the Grammy nomination tally is particularly significant.
BEYONCÉ’S GRAMMY WINS
She remains one of the most celebrated musicians worldwide. The singer boasts 32 Grammy wins as a solo artist and three more from her time with Destiny’s Child.
South African fans, who hold Beyoncé in high regard, are delighted by her latest success.
Her achievements speak to her tenacity and talent, especially considering she has not yet won the coveted Album of the Year award.
This is despite multiple nominations in this top category, according to Rolling Stone.
JAY-Z SPEAKS OUT ON ALBUM OF THE YEAR
Jay-Z himself addressed this omission earlier, saying, “She has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year.
So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work.” His words resonate with her loyal supporters, who feel she has long deserved recognition in this top category.
Beyoncé’s competition for Album of the Year is fierce, according to IOL.
BEYONCÉ VS TAYLOR SWIFT
Taylor Swift, another Grammy powerhouse, also secured a nomination for her recent release, The Tortured Poets Department, a record-breaking hit.
Swift’s project, crafted amid an intense world tour, is already a frontrunner for the prize. This will potentially pit two fan favourites against each other.
NEW GRAMMY TALENT
This year’s Grammy nominees include a broad mix of talent. From Billie Eilish, who received seven nominations, to rising stars Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan.
Roan, especially, has turned heads with her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, marking her as a favourite for Best New Artist.
BEYONCÉ AND OTHER NOMINESS
British and South African music fans alike are also excited to see nominations for legendary acts like The Beatles, who earned a nod for Record of the Year with their song Now And Then.
This track, which features AI-assisted vocals of the late John Lennon, comes 60 years after their initial Grammy nomination for Best New Artist.
Other notable nominees include Kendrick Lamar, whose diss track Not Like Us sparked discussions and earned five nominations.
THE GRAMMY’S DIVERSITY PUSH
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter became the oldest-ever Grammy nominee at 100, with a nomination for his audiobook, Last Sundays In Plains.
The Grammys’ diversity push has continued to grow, especially with over 2,000 new members joining the Academy’s voting panel this year.
Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, reminded voters to avoid bias, saying, “There’s no place in our organisation for… bias, grudge-holding, or careless voting.”
BEYONCÉ FANS EXCITED
Beyoncé’s fans in South Africa will no doubt be glued to the screens come 2 February 2025. This is when the Grammy winners are revealed.
The competition will be stiff, but they know their icon has already made history, win or lose.
