Bebe Cool Apologizes Over “Insensitive” Comments on Riot Victims

Local Musician Moses Ssali aka Bebe Cool has apologized for his earlier statement where he referred to National Unity Platform supporters as “hooligans” who deserved to be dealt with.

Bebe had earlier posted a video in which a woman armed with a riffle supposedly threatened him. In the post he attacked the NUP supporters whom he said were threatening to hurt him.

However, this morning the singer came out to apologize for this post which he said was insensitive to the people who were hurt and killed from yesterday’s riots which were sparked by the arrest of the NUP Presidential candidate Bobi Wine.

“I would like to apologize for the post I made yesterday that made me appear insensitive towards the families of the innocent Ugandans that lost their lives in the riots that took place yesterday,” he said.

“What happened yesterday is regrettable and I am saddened by the loss of life and property that we all saw. I condole with the families of all those that lost or got a loved one injured in the violence that took place yesterday.”

Ssali asked all Ugandans to distance themselves from acts of violence adding that this country “belongs to all of us not a few individuals”

“We shouldn’t accept or associate with acts of violence especially because of our political affiliation. The right to associate is a God given right and is enshrined in our constitution. Nobody should take that away from us but during these Covid times, gatherings are restricted and we need to adhere to government regulations.”

Regarding his own rallies in which he was seen distributing NRM shirts, Bebe Cool said these meetings followed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

“Our opponents started with processions and later switched to mass campaign rallies in open fields without regard to the set EC guidelines and even started holding music concerts which are still prohibited during these Covid times.” He added.
