Bawumia’s smartphone accessibility pledge misguided and visionless – Adongo

Isaac Adongo, the Ranking Member on the Finance Committee of Parliament, has criticised the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over his promise to make smartphones accessible and cheap for the youth if he wins the presidency.

Dr Bawumia made the pledge at a campaign event in the Northern region. The Vice President added that he would collaborate with mobile phone manufacturers to provide the smartphones on a credit basis.

In a parliamentary session on Thursday, Mr Adongo contended that this pledge underscores the current government’s lack of strategic foresight.

He suggested that the pledge was a misguided endeavour.

“You move unemployment from 8% to 14%, and all you can tell the unemployed youth who are looking up to you to tell them…how you they will get the next meal…is that you’ll give them mobile phones so that every month they will pay GH¢1, GH¢2.

“How does that create a solution to the unemployment situation? This is a visionless government that they intentionally created this unemployment for our youth so they could prey on them for election purposes,” he stated.
