Bandits kill 3 as police foil attack in Jibia, Katsina

Bandits raided Umguwar Bachaka, a community in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, weekend, killing three residents and abducting an unspecified number of persons.

A source from Jibia, who requested anonymity, disclosed that the hoodlums stormed the area about 11 p.m., shooting indiscriminately and causing panic in the community.

“The bandits were many and they moved from house to house shooting indiscriminately. Many people including children were injured. They also took several others to their hideout,” the source revealed.
He also disclosed that as of yesterday morning, the exact number of people abducted by the bandits in Umguwar Bachaka was still unknown.

In a similar encounter in the early hours of Friday, a group of bandits on motorcycles reportedly killed two and abducted 13 other residents of Mai Bakkon Dan Auta village in Sabuwa Local Government Area, Katsina State.

According to reports, a member of the Katsina Community Watch Corps was among those killed in the attack.
Among those abducted was one Alhaji Imamu, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chairman of the Mai Bakko ward.

Their whereabouts at press time remain unknown.

Both Sabuwa and Jibia are among the LGAs heavily impacted by the activities of bandits in the state.

Spokesperson, Katsina Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq in a statement, disclosed that its operatives foiled a bandit attack on Unguwar Batsaka, quarters in Jibia township.

He noted that six kidnapped victims were rescued, while one other succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during the incident.

He disclosed that the foiled operation occured about 11:25 p.m., following a distress call received at the Jibia Police Division.
