Audi has unveiled its fourth-generation S8 in South Africa with the latest suite of technology and a powerful V8 turbo engine. The flagship performance sedan went on sale in late November and is priced at R2 759 000.
THE NEW S8 IS BUILT AT AUDI’S PLANT IN NECKARSULM
Like other fast Audis, the S8 fitted with a sophisticated Quattro four-wheel-drive system. The 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine delivers a claimed 420kW and 800N.m and is mated to an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission, according to Motorpress.
The German carmaker claims the burly saloon car accelerates from zero to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds. It’s fitted with an adaptive air suspension that offers several different damping options. To aid entering and exiting the sedan, the S8’s body can be raised and lowered by up to 50 mm.
Some of the technology fitted to the latest Audi S8 includes Digital Matrix LED headlights and OLED rear lights, Audi pre-sense, virtual cockpit Plus and optional night vision assistant.
The Audi S8’s eight-cylinder engine can run on four-cylinders thanks to fuel-saving technology adopted by the luxury five-seater limousine. The drive can choose from different driving modes via the push of a button on Audi drive select system. In the most dynamic mode, the Audi S8’s roll angles are narrower, and the body hardly dips when braking.
For a more relaxed drive, the comfort+ mode unlocks the integrated curve tilting function that reduces the lateral acceleration that acts on the occupants.
THE S8 BOASTS A SEAT MASSAGE FUNCTION AND B&O SOUND SYSTEM
The MMI infotainment system is voice operated and there is an 10.1 inch and 8.6 inch displays up front with two 10.1 inch displays at full HD resolution attached to the backs of the front seats.
The Audi S8 is fitted with a plethora of advanced systems as standard, including Audi connect2X and infotainment services, predictive active suspension, Valcona leather upholstery with diamond stitching, seat ventilation and massage function, Bang & Olufsen Premium Sound with 3D, Audi virtual cockpit Plus, and a Head-up display.
