Anambra state government says it is ready to complete all awarded road contracts going on in the state.
The commissioner for Works, Engineer Marcel Ifejiofor gave the assurance while addressing journalists on the state of roads in the state during the Meet the Media Program.
Engineer Ifejiofor explained that Anambra state government has constructed and is still constructing roads in most communities in the state, regretting that citizens attitude to refuse disposal and influx of articulated vehicles and lorries are the major causes of roads failure.
The commissioner recalled that Anambra has the highest number of tarred roads in the country which he said also contributes to the rising cases of pot holes being recorded in the state.
He made it clear that Anambra state government has not and did not stop rehabilitation , reconstruction or construction of any road in the state especially in Nnewi, as he said that state government is still appealing to individuals to help government in doing some of the roads as government alone cannot do all the roads.
Engineer Ifejiofor presented copies of letters obtained from federal ministry of works stopping work on rehabilitation of some roads in Nnewi because the contractor did not get approval from them.
Engineer Ifejiofor announced that work will soon commence on Obodo Ukwu road Okpoko,Amansea Ndi-Ukwuenu-Awa road while the Enugu-Agidi -Nawgu-Ukwulu road would witness total reconstruction.
He said that everyone is a stakeholder in the construction , maintainance and protection of state roads by ensuring proper refuse dump , not burning tires on tarred roads among others.
The media briefing was organised by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Willie Obiano Mr James Eze.
The commissioner was flanked by the Permanent Secretary ministry of works Barrister Emeka Ohuoha and the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Works Mr Austine Nnanyelugo.
