Anambra State Government Meets With Tricycle Operators

Anambra state government has expressed concern over rising cases of crime perpetuated with tricycles operating in the State.

Secretary to the state government (SSG), Professor Solo Chukwulobelu who made this known, asked tricycle operators in the state to join the ongoing ATMC registration in the state.

The SSG made this known during a meeting with the operators at Dr Alex Ekwueme square, Awka.

According to the SSG who said that the registration will aid easy identification, security reports recieved over the last few weeks indicate that tricycles are used to commit crime including kidnap activities, shooting, pilfering, among others, which has increased.

Professor Chukwulobelu stressed that if the operators refuse to identify the bad eggs among them ? government will have no other alternative but to ban the operation of tricycles in the state.

The Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr Uchenna Okafor, announced the cancellation of all monthly dues being paid by the riders, assuring the riders that their concerns will be probed with a view to addressing them.

A meeting with stakeholders handling Awka tricycle operators was quickly convened for Monday, 16th November, 2020 by 11 am at the government House, Awka, to articulate their points and grievances.

Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Security, Chief Chikaodili Anara asked the riders to choose some members of the task force on their behalf and create an internal mechanism to enable them point out the bad eggs among them.

Earlier, some of the operators took turns to express themselves to the state government.

Chief Security Officer to the Governor, Mr Chinedu Anagboso, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, among others were part of the meeting.
