Despite the imposition of sanction on the former Chief of Staff to President George Weah, Nathaniel Falo McGill by the United States Treasury Department for alleged corruption, hundreds of citizens of Margibi County on Saturday, September 24, 2022, petitioned him to run for Senate during the 2023 general and presidential elections.

Nathaniel McGill recently resigned his post after being designated by the U.S. Treasury Department for official corruption.

Some Liberians who spoke to journalists during the program this situation beats their imagination to have seen a large number of Liberians that trooped and assembled in Kakata today to pledge political support to the sanctioned and former Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, Nathaniel Falo McGill.

Mr. McGill wants to contest in 2023 as a senatorial candidate in Margibi County.

The action of those Liberians portrays a negative image of Liberia to the Americans, who are committed to ensuring the practice of good governance in Liberia, said the observer.

Mr. McGill and two other former officials were sanctioned for engaging in acts that stalled Liberia’s ability to thrive as a sovereign nation

Another Liberia said “What those people did today is a slap in the face of the Americans”, adding that the actions of the Margibi people portray ingratitude at the highest level.”This is shameful and embarrassing”, he said.
