Al Ahly Wins Ninth CAF Champions League

• Al Ahly 2-1 Zamalek

Al Ahly were crowned 2019/20 CAF Champions League winners after a 2-1 win over Zamalek in the final played at Cairo International Stadium on Friday night.

The Red Devils scored through Amr El Sulaya and Mohamed Magdi, while Mahmoud Shikabala netted the White Knights’ consolation which had earlier came as an equalising goal.

Al Ahly drew first blood in the game thanks to Ali Maaloul’s well delivered corner-kick which was headed home by El Sulaya for the opener on the 5th minute mark.

Zamalek’s Shikabala restored parity after 31 minutes when he beat two defenders and unleashed a powerful shot that went past the Red Devils’ goalkeeper for an equaliser.

Few minutes after the restart, the White Knights slightly went into the driving seat only for Ahmed Sayed Zizo’s stunning shot to rattle the woodwork.

With four minutes to the end of the game, Al Ahly restored their lead thanks to Magdi who scored with a volley to seal a 2-1 win over Zamalek on the night.

Al Ahly recorded their ninth Champions League title and their first since 2013 with South African Pitso Mosimane becoming the 8th coach to have won more than one Caf Champions League title since the league inception in 1964.

Mosimane is the 3rd coach to win the CAF Champions League with two teams after winning it with Mamelodi Sundowns (2016). He also triumphed Zamalek SC in that final.
