Abdul Samed eager to contribute after Sunderland move
Salis Abdul Samed has shared his excitement about his season-long loan move to Sunderland from RC Lens.The Ghanaian midfielder, who arrived on deadline day as one of four new signings, is eager to make a significant impact in the Sky Bet Championship.”Im very happy to be here I spoke with the Head Coach about the project and how the supporters love the Club, so it seemed like a good place for me to progress,” Abdul Samed said.Sunderland currently sit at the top of the Championship, having won their first four games of the season.”To win four games in a row is very difficult, but four games is not enough, and we need to continue to work hard and get more wins,” he added.Ready to embrace the competition, Abdul Samed emphasized, “Im a competitor, and I love the competition for places we work as a team and move forward together.”
Samed started his career at the JMG Academy in Cte d’Ivoire before moving to France in 2019, signing a two-year contract at Clermont Foot.
He was part of the squad that earned promotion to Ligue 1 in 2021 and he played a significant role in the French top tier, appearing 31 times as Clermont retained their top-flight status for the first time in their history.
After moving to RC Lens in June 2022, Samed enjoyed a formidable debut season in Northern France, as Franck Haises side finished second in Ligue 1 and qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 20 years.
A 2022-23 Prix Marc-Vivien Fo award nominee, Samed received his first international call-up to the Ghana national team in November 2022 ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
