GOMYCODE celebrates first graduation with 70 students successfully completing programme

GOMYCODE has celebrated its inaugural graduation ceremony, where 70 students were equipped with high-level skills across four disciplines.

The ceremony held on Friday recognized students who have acquired valuable skills in data science, software development, digital marketing, graphic design, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Speaking during the event, GOMYCODE Kenya General Manager Mellany Msengezi stated that the tech education centre, which began operations in Kenya, aims to close the digital skills gap expected to accelerate the digital economy.

“Since our inception in Kenya, we have impacted over 100 students, but globally we have trained more than 50,000 students through GOMYCODE. Hopefully, in Kenya and East Africa, we will have the same impact and contribution to the industry and the future jobs we are skilling our people for,” said Msengezi.

According to Msengezi, the firm, which currently has centres in Nigeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Algeria, Ivory Coast, and Senegal, is targeting to ensure there is enough capacity for skilled manpower, as 230 jobs are required globally by 2030.

“In Africa, education can be very expensive. For us, we are looking for quality, affordable, localized training; that is why we are coming in as GOMYCODE,” stated Msengezi.

The training courses range from three to six months, during which students are equipped with the high-level skills needed to meet industry demand.

During the training period, students are also required to build real solutions that address challenges affecting society in areas such as health, the environment, e-commerce, chatbots, and fintech.

“My project emphasized chatbots. It’s a flower recommendation system called Flowebot, designed for florists and people selling flowers to recommend what kind of flowers to buy. It will provide a list of recommendations, and then users can go to the billing system and check out,” said Abigia Edessa, one of the graduates.

Additionally, GOMYCODE links students to the tech ecosystem, where they can meet potential financiers and learn how to pitch for funding.
