South African actress Gugu Gumede is making headlines against the backdrop of her birthday.
The celebrated actress has wowed many with her unmatched acting flair thanks to her on-screen characters, including MaMlambo on Uzalo.

Despite being one of the most followed actresses in South Africa, Gugu Gumede has managed to keep her private life under wraps, leaving many to guess.
The actress set social media abuzz on her birthday. The seasoned actress took to social media to celebrate her birthday with a heartfelt post.
Taking to the picture-sharing app, Gumude shared photos and captioned them, “By the grace of God, this is 33.” Her new look left many wondering about her age.
After all, against the trends, fans were puzzled to learn that she was 33. The seasoned actress was born in December 1991 in KwaZulu-Natal to Simon Hulumeni Gumede and Zanele KwaMagwaza-Msibi.
Over the years, she has been off the hook and has undergone a weight loss journey, leaving her unrecognisable to some of her fans.
Against the post, fans and fellow celebrities quickly flooded her comments section with their two cents.
WEIGHT LOSS
The publication has since connected the dots about her weight loss journey, which has thrust her into top trends.
She revealed in May this year that she lost over 20 kg in two months following gastric sleeve surgery, which she opted for to control her food portions.
Gugu Gumede said that while surgery worked for her, it’s not the only solution, as everyone’s lifestyle and needs are different, The Citizen reported.
CAREER
Like those before her, Gugu Gumede started acting at a younger age. However, she went on to pursue her craze for acting with the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
She entered the industry in 2013 when she joined the star-studded cast of Generations. Gugu Gumede was cast as Mandisa in one of the most-watched South African drama series.
Gugu Gumede had the opportunity to star with some of the industry’s biggest names, including multi-award-winning Connie Ferguson.
However, in 2015, she joined South Africa’s most-watched drama series, Uzalo. Gugu Gumede was cast as MaMlambo.
She nailed her character perfectly, leaving many convinced that it was one of her best on-screen characters in recent years.
Apart from her illustrious career spanning over a decade, she has starred in several productions, including Netflix’s Umjolo: The Gone Girl and e.tv’s Isiphetho: Destiny.
