Ghana U15 Boys clinch bronze at WAFU B African Schools Football Championship
The Ghana Schools U15 boys secured a 1-0 victory over Burkina Faso to claim third place in the WAFU B African Schools Football Championship, which concluded on Saturday, November 23, 2024, in Niamey, Niger.Cyril Acquah Hagan was the hero of the day, calmly converting a penalty to seal the win for the young Ghanaian side at the FeniFoot Technical Centre.The teams journey in the tournament saw them finish third in their group after a 1-1 draw with Burkina Faso and a dominant 5-0 win over hosts Niger. However, their hopes for gold were dashed in the semi-final, where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Cote dIvoire.Despite the setback, Ghana celebrated a notable achievement as Hagan clinched the Goal King Award, having netted three goals throughout the competition.WAFU B President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku presented bronze medals to the Ghanaian players and officials, recognising their spirited performance.The tournament featured six nations competing in boys’ and girls’ divisions, with Cote dIvoire crowned champions in the boys category after a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout win over Benin. Cote dIvoires triumph earned them a spot in the CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals, set for 2025.The CAF African Schools Football Championship highlights the commitment to nurturing young African talent from the grassroots level, aiming to lay a strong foundation for the continents future football stars.
