27 children receive free heart surgeries, procedures at MP Shah
Each year, at least 6,000 newborn babies are born with heart conditions in the country.
This alarming statistic came to light during an open-heart surgery event at MP Shah Hospital in Nairobi, where 19 babies underwent life-saving surgeries, and eight others received device closure procedures—all at no cost to the families.
Among the beneficiaries were Betty Chepwogen from Kericho County and Caroline Kaigua from Meru County, whose children were among those treated.
A team of local and international cardiologists successfully performed the procedures, providing them with a chance at survival.
