Failing to win our home games cost us our 2025 AFCON chances, says Black Stars coach Otto Addo
Otto AddoGhana coach, Otto Addo beleives failure to win their home games has cost them to feature in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.Black Stars hopes of playing at the continent’s most prestigious tournament were dashed after being held to a 1-1 draw against Angola in their Matchday five games at theEstdio 11 de Novembro.Heading into the game, Ghana needed a win against the Palancras Negras and their final game against Niger after they were handed a lifeline following Sudan’s 4-0 loss against the Nigeriens.Speaking after the game, the 45-year-old trainer admitted that not winning their home games has cost them a place to play in the tournament.According to him, his sidemissed opportunities to win their home fixtures, noting that winning away games is far more difficult due to the strength of host nations. In general, we have to look at all the games we played, especially our home games, Addo stated. We lost to Angola, where we were better. In these tournaments, you have to win your home games; very, very important. And if you dont win, it is always difficult to play away and try to win because every nation is strong at home, he added.Ghana has recorded a draw and a defeat in their home games of the qualifiers and after five games, they sit 4th in Group F with two points. With no chance of progress, the match against Niger now holds no significance for Ghana as they are bottom of Group F at the moment. This marks the first time in 21 years that Ghana will miss the Africa Cup of Nations.
