WATCH: Police protects former Kaizer Chiefs star from pitch invaders
Former Kaizer Chiefs talisman Khama Billiat is trending after he was escorted from the pitch by police officers after pitch evaders scrambled for photos with the star.
The incident happened at the New Peter Makoba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday night. The star pulled a show for the Warriors, who qualified for the 2025 AFCON after they drew 1-1 with Kenya.
POLICE PROTECT FORMER KAIZER CHIEFS STAR FROM PITCH INVADERS
The former Kaizer Chiefs star was one of the star performers, as he assisted Tawanda Maswanhise’s goal. After leaving Kaizer Chiefs at the eleventh hour, this was his second return to South Africa.
His return to international football allowed him to wow fans again in South Africa, where he made a name for himself as one of the best stars to have ever played in the Premier Soccer League thanks to his big wins with Mamelodi Sundowns.
On his first dance in South Africa after leaving Kaizer Chiefs, Khama Billiat scored a winner against Namibia in Zambabwe’s AFCON Group J qualifier at Orlando Stadium last month.
However, his recent show saw hundreds of invaders making it to the pitch, seemingly overpowering police officers on duty.
In a now-viral video, Khama Billiat is seen being escorted from the pitch by police officers as fans scramble for pictures with him.
Fans seemingly wanted to celebrate with him and take photos with their star, but the police had to protect him from the crowd.
At some point, the police were seen pushing off some of the pitch invaders to make way for Khama Billiat. The video has since gained thousands of comments and reactions since it dropped.
EXCITED TO BE BACK
When he returned to South Africa for the first time after leaving Kaizer Chiefs, Khama Billiat expressed his excitement. The star played for several South African clubs before joining Yadah FC in Zimbabwe.
He made his name without a doubt during a successful club career playing for Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Kaizer Chiefs.
He said about his return to South Africa, “I am excited about this opportunity and to be back in South Africa, where I spent the better part of my playing career.”
Khama Billiat returned to international football this year after he changed his decision to come out of retirement.
CAREER
He had his youth career with Aces Youth Soccer Academy before joining CAPS United in 2010.
However, he switched the floor to Ajax Cape Town the same year. He left Ajax Cape Town in 2013 for Mamelodi Sundowns.
In 2018, he joined Kaizer Chiefs in a big money transfer. However, his stint with the Soweto Giants was not as colourful as many thought it would be.
After dumping the Soweto giants in the eleventh hour in June 2023, Khama Billiat joined Yadah FC in February 2024.
