‘A fearless fighter’: Zuma welcomes Dali Mpofu to MK Party

Jacob Zuma has welcomed former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) national chairperson Dali Mpofu to uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

In an interview with the SABC Mpofu revealed that he is set to join the Zuma-led party and that he had not informed EFF leader Julius Malema of his decision.

ZUMA WELCOMES DALI MPOFU TO MK PARTY

As previously reported, Mpofu said he joined the MK Party because he believes it is the vehicle through which the much-needed black and progressive unity can be achieved.

“I’m joining MK because I believe that it is the vehicle through which we will achieve the much-needed black and progressive unity so I’m doing so not necessarily to reject any other organisation but at this point in time, in November 2024, I am of the view that the vehicle through which we should drive that unity is uMkhonto we Sizwe,” he said.

Mpofu, a former member of the African National Congress (ANC) joined the EFF when it was formed in 2013 and served as its first national chairperson from 2014 – 2019.

Zuma who described Mpofu as a reliable, committed, and fearless fighter for justice and real emancipation said they believe that the lawyer will be a perfect fit into the membership and leadership of the MK Party.

“With the massive political, ideological and organisational experience that he posses, we will as the leadership collective of MK Party decide on the specific role he will play in the organisation.

“He is committed and has always been committed to the agenda of unification of all the progressive political formations and MK Party is a perfect platform and movement for the unification of all the progressive forces for total emancipation,” Zuma said.

EFF TO HOLD ELECTIVE CONFERENCE

The EFF will hold its National People’s Assembly from 12 – 15 December where the party will elect new leadership and review some of its policies.

In July, Malema told the SABC that he is absolutely available to lead the party for the third term. He also acknowledged that it is up to the delegates whether he comes back from the conference as leader or not.

Juju also took issue with those who always call him a dictator yet he always subjects himself to the democratic scrutiny of EFF structures.

“That democracy has worked as we will celebrate 11 years. What kept it alive is its democratic centralism and the ability to sustain the democratic practices in the organisation,” he said.
