GFA and UNODC present sports equipment to Ankaful Maximum Security Prison

The Ghana Football Association (GFA), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), has presented various sports items to Ankaful Maximum Security Prison. This initiative, under the second phase of the GFA Foundation-Ghana Prisons Project, aims to promote the wellbeing, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates through sports. The donation included footballs, basketball hoops, jerseys, and other sports equipment to help enhance the physical and mental health of prisoners. The presentation aligns with the UNODCs Nelson Mandela Rules project, focused on improving conditions in prisons.GFA Foundation Director, Malcolm Frazier Appeadu, encouraged the prison to maximize the benefits of the donation, while Deputy Director of Prisons, Alfred Codjoe, expressed gratitude, highlighting the positive impact of sports on prisoners with long sentences. The event also featured an exhibition match between inmates and officers, which ended in a goalless draw. Former Black Stars player Emmanuel Agyeman Badu, the days icon, interacted with inmates, advocating against stigmatization and promising to return with former teammates for another match. This second phase continues the work from six prior facilities, including Nsawam Medium Security and Winneba Local Prison.
