Crown Beverages, WastePays to help Jinja City recycle polyethylene

Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Jinja is ready to take on the challenges that come with being elevated to a city status, including garbage collection, Juliet Agnes Kadama, the Chairperson of Finance and Planning, has said.
Kadama said this Wednesday as she welcomed a partnership between Pepsi, Crown Beverages and Waste Pay Company, who have collaborated to recycle some of the garbage collected from Jinja City.
“Our local revenue as a city, being a new one has been slow, and in public places, garbage has been a big challenge to almost the whole of Jinja City,” she said at the function in Jinja where Crown Beverages and Waste Pays announced a strategic partnership to enhance Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste collection.
Hilda Mbabazi, CEO of Crown Beverages Limited said they are excited to announce a strategic partnership with Waste Pays, a pioneer in sustainable waste management solutions, to significantly enhance the collection and recycling of Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste in Uganda. This, they promised, will contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
“While responding to consumer demand for refreshment products on-the-go, the volumes of PET products sold in Uganda and consequently PET waste generated has increased over the years. Cognizant of the emerging impact of plastic waste to climate change and inline with PepsiCo International’s PEP Positive agenda, Crown Beverages Limited is supporting PET waste management,” Hilda Mbabazi said.

Hilda Mbabazi added that the drive will go to many cities across Uganda.
“We are thrilled to partner with Waste Pays to tackle the pressing issue of plastic waste. This collaboration is a significant step towards our goal of creating a more sustainable future.”
Waste Pay showed officials from Jinja City and Peps, their recycling process.
