Accra Sports Stadium closed down for maintenance
The Accra Sports Stadium has been closed down for maintenance work as the National Sports Authority race against time to get it ready to potentially host Ghana’s next Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Also undergoing maintenance work is the Cape Coast Stadium in hopes of being available for October’s international assignment. This comes after the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi was banned from hosting the Black Stars’ home game following ‘technical infractions, including unsuitable playing pitch.’The four-time African champions have been left with the option of playing their home games away from Ghana, which is a huge setback for the West African nation.Meanwhile, Ghana Premier League clubs Hearts of Oak, Accra Lions and Dreams FC will have to find a new home venue for their topflight matches in the coming weeks.Last week, the Ministry of Youth and Sports ordered the Ghana Football Association to make a request to the Confederation of African Football to inspect the Accra Sports Stadium and the University of Ghana Stadium for the game against Sudan in October.
