Nine exits at Pirates

At beginning of the transfer window, Pirates offloaded six players. Souiabou Marou, Fortune Makaringe, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Kermit Erasmus, Richard Ofori and Thabang Monare. They then added Vincent Pule who played against them and impressed in the colours of SuperSport United . An eighth exit was then added to the list with young midfielder Azola Matrose returning to Chippa United. It was thought that the player was likely set for a loan move but signed permanently instead.

But Pirates ninth exit has been confirmed as a loan to Chippa, this in the form of midfielder Siphelo Baloni. At the Eastern Cape-based side’s kit launch, they confirmed the new additions, including that of the Buccaneer loanee.

“The 2024/25 season is designed to embody the passion, pride, and resilience of our beloved club. This momentous occasion also saw the introduction of our latest signings, who are set to strengthen the squad and bring fresh energy to the team. Among the talented new players unveiled at the press event were, Siphelo Baloni. A versatile midfielder ready to make an impact. Gabriel Michael from Tanzania, a promising left-back bringing international experience.” Wrote the statement from Chippa.

Latest in Baloni

Baloni struggled for game time at Pirates, after joining the club from defunct All Stars FC. He found the midfield competition tough to cope with. Even with the departures of Monare and Makaringe, nothing seemed like it was going to change. The Sea Robbers still boast the likes of Miguel Timm, Thalente Mbatha, Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo and Selaelo Rasebotja.

Baloni will now hope to show his worth while on loan at Chippa. This in the hope of a recall at Pirates. Buccaneers, is this the right move? Leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
