80-Year-Old Man Commits Suicide After Failing to Kill Wife

An 80-year-old man in Kabale took his own life after failing to kill his 60-year-old wife whom he was accusing of infidelity.

Elly Maate Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman   identified the deceased as Edward Nsigirenda, a resident of Rwembogo village, in Buhara Sub County who allegedly committed suicide moments after he allegedly attempted to kill his wife.

Maate says the deceased has been having a domestic wrangle with his wife Lydia Nduhukire whom he suspected of having an extramarital relationship.

He says that   at one time the deceased assaulted his wife and seriously injured her leading to hospitalization and that she even left her home and started living with her son in Kakumiro district for fear of being killed.

“But in December 2021, the deceased convinced his wife to return home and Wednesday, the couple quarreled again and the old man picked a panga and cut the woman’s hand but she raised an alarm that attracted neighbours who rushed her to Buhara Health Center III for treatment,” Maate says.

The old man who was left home alone was later found hanging on a rope in his house.

Maate said that the Police was notified and rushed to the scene of crime where a postmortem examination was done on site and a case of suicide was registered at Kabale Central Police Station under reference number CRB 085/2022.
