‘7,000 ADF Fighters Killed Since December 2021’

The joint armed forces of Uganda and DR Congo have killed about 7,000 Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) militants in eastern Congo since the launch of Operation Shujaa in December, 2021.

“In the last 10 months, the joint forces of UPDF and FARDC have eliminated no less than 7,000 ADF terrorists,” said Uganda’s Land Forces commander, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba this past weekend.

“We have brought back peace to large parts of North Kivu. This is the life I have been living for the last 28 years, to make a humble but lasting contribution to peace and security of our country,” he added.

Muhoozi’s remarks were delivered by Lt Col Chris Magezi at Makerere MBA Graduates (Class of 2020/21) Dinner at Kampala Serena Hotel this past Saturday.

The allied forces launched a blitzkrieg against ADF in North Kivu after the terror group detonated explosives in the central region, killing several people.

The terrorists would later change their operation strategy by conducting small and isolated guerrilla attacks on homes and shops of civilians, hacking them to death.

In other instances, the ADF ambushed and slaughtered local chiefs to intimidate authorities from providing actionable intelligence about the fighters’ bases to FARDC and ADF.

Officials say military operations in DRC are aimed at defeating militants and creating an enabling environment for the construction of modern roads and attracting foreign direct investment in the war-torn areas.

“Without stability, our country could not prosper,” said Muhoozi.

“It is our collective responsibility, without exception, to guard and secure this beautiful motherland, and Africa, so that our people are secure, stable, and prosperous.”

Meanwhile, Muhoozi urged the young people to demand not merely tokens of support here and there, but the necessary conditions in which they can thrive and prosper.

“Young people need jobs – and the potential for this is unlimited if we correctly follow the advice of our revolutionary leaders by leveraging the numerous opportunities in the four main sectors of industry, services, agriculture, and ICT,” said Muhoozi.

“Uganda is also blessed with great talent, especially in the arts, entertainment, and sports fields. We shall strive, without ceasing, to support the interests of all the young people of Uganda to achieve their dreams.”
