39 suspects arrested in police swoop

Thirty-nine people have been arrested by the police in three different swoops in the Greater Accra Region.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mrs Effie Tenge, said the swoop was conducted at Kantamanto, Shangrilla, near Airport, and Amasaman.

All the suspects, she said, were being screened and those found to have broken any law would be put before court for prosecution.

Kantamanto swoop

DSP Tenge said the Railways District Police Command conducted a swoop around Kantamanto, its environs and other areas such as the Kwame Nkrumah circle railway line last Saturday.

The aim of the swoop, she said, was to help fish out suspected criminals from their hideouts.

She said 25 suspects, including seven females, were arrested in that particular exercise.

Other swoops

DSP Tenge said the Airport swoop conducted last Wednesday led to the arrest of 11 suspects.

Some of the suspects, she said, were found with substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

With regard to the Amasaman swoop, DSP Tenge said the Amasaman District Police Command conducted it last Wednesday at Nsakina and Obeyeyie, where three suspects were arrested.
