31 NUP Supporters Remanded over Violence

Iganga Grade one Magistrate Josephine Nakato has remanded 31 supporters of National Unity Platform (NUP) for allegedly participating in riots in various parts of Iganga district.

The suspects who were on Thursday charged with Inciting Violence totaled 33 .
However, two being juveniles were released on court bond
The remaining group were remanded to Busesa Prison untill 24th November for mention.
Majority of these were below 30 years and seven of them below 20.
These were all residents of Iganga District belonging to various professions like Mechanics, Boda Boda Riders , Bakers , Carpenters and Teachers.
Prosecution contends that the 33 with others at large on 18th November 2020 at Iganga Town, incited members of Public to do acts of violence against Police officers and other Government institutions by burning vehicles after the arrest of Hon Robert Kyagulanyi (NUP) Presidential candidate.
