26-year- old Austin Aminu emerged winner of the first northern gospel music show in Minna, Niger state capital over the weekend.
Aminu defeated 12 other contestants at the grand finale of the contest organised by Resident Pastor of House on the Rock, Minna.
He went home with N500,000 as the grand prize.
The winner, who spoke to The Nation after the contest, appreciated his mother for encouraging him to stay in Minna.
Aminu, who recalled he began singing at eight, said when he was able to scale the elimination stage, he decided to go back to work on himself and his voice and was glad it finally paid off.
He said he would use the prize money to boost his music career and take care of his family.
In the next few months, he said he would produce new sounds that would encourage people to praise and worship God at all time.
Applauding Aminu for his resilience, the Resident Pastor of the House of Rock, Pastor Peterock Saddiq, explained the winner was almost disqualified from the finals because of his low performance but was able to make a grand comeback which was splendid.
