2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Otto Addo failed to manage Black Stars captaincy for Sudan games – George Afriyie

Mohammed KudusFormer Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, believes the management of the Black Stars captaincy during the recent games against Sudan was inadequate. With Thomas Partey ruled out of the doubleheader against the Falcons in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), head coach Otto Addo appointed Mohammed Kudus as the stand-in captain.Jordan Ayew, typically next in line for the captaincy, was bypassed in this decision.Afriyie, who previously chaired the Black Stars Management Committee, expressed concerns about how the situation was handled.”There are questions to be answered in these two games. Some players could not show up for these games, and MohammedKudus was named as the captainof the team,” he told Asempa FM.”Ibelievethe coaches led by Otto Addo should have managed the situation well but they didn’t. I think the call-up made for these games was not properly planned,” he added. The Sudanese team, led by goals from Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud and Mohammed Abdelrahman, secured a victory over Ghana, leaving the Black Stars with just two points in Group F.In contrast, Sudan now sits comfortably in their qualification bid with seven points. As it stands, the Black Stars are third in Group F with two points after four matches and will regroup for their final games against Niger and Angola next month.
