2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Ghana coach Otto Addo reflects on defeat to Sudan, describes it as a "bitter pill" to take

Ghana head coach, Otto Addo has expressed his disappointment following the Black Stars’ 1-0 defeat to Sudan in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match. Speaking in an interview with the GFA media team, the tactician described the loss as a “bitter pill to take” but extended congratulations to Sudan for their well-deserved victory.”Congratulations to Sudan. Coach Kwesi Appiah has always been a gentleman before and after the game. They did well,” Addo acknowledged, adding “They showed passion in their match, and I would like to congratulate them for this.”Reflecting on Ghana’s performance, Addo admitted that the team fell short of expectations, despite their efforts.”I want to thank the team for at least trying, knowing that it was not good enough. We had a good talk afterwards, and I had individual discussions with players to address specific issues and moments from the game,” he explained. The defeat left the Black Stars dejected, with Addo emphasising the emotional toll it took on the team.”Everybody was down; it was a really, really hard pill to take,” he said. However, the coach remains hopeful, expressing gratitude for the support of his technical staff.”I want to use the opportunity to thank the whole technical staff for supporting me, even now after the game in our worst days, because surely, we as Ghana should qualify for AFCON,” he said.Despite the setback, Coach Otto Addo and his team are determined to regroup and push forward as they aim to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
