2025 AFCON Qualifiers: Ex-Ghana coach Avram Grant guides Zambia to qualification

Former Ghana coach Avram Grant has led Zambia to secure qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a 1-0 victory over reigning champions Ivory Coast at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Friday night. The Israeli trainer, who led Ghana to the 2015 final and lost on penalties to Cte dIvoire, has been in charge of the team since 2022.Kennedy Musondas 43rd-minute strike, assisted by Joseph Banda, proved decisive in the tense Group G clash.Zambia now sits atop the group with 10 points and one match to spare against Sierra Leone. The game began with Ivory Coast dominating possession, forcing Zambia into defensive mode. Stopilla Sunzu made a crucial block in the 20th minute to deny the Elephants, who controlled much of the first half. However, Musondas goal gave the Copper Bullets a narrow lead at halftime.Despite Ivory Coasts second-half pressure, Zambias defense stood firm, with goalkeeper Yahia Fofana denying a late chance to double the lead. The Chipolopolo weathered a nervy finish to secure their AFCON spot, marking Grants continued success.
