A late strike from Benedict Afful denied Accra Lions victory in an enthralling encounter against FC Samartex at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Friday night.The host dominated the early exchanges and deservedly took the lead through Abdul Shakun Abubakar before half time.Accra Lions declared their intentions early in the match after Mohammed Ali sent a perfectly-measured pass to Blessing Asuman, who lofted the ball over goalkeeper Kofi Baah and missed.Ezekiel Alladoh almost opened the scoring after striking the post but he was adjudged offside a moment later by the referee.Following a dominant play from the host, defender Baba Apiiga who started a move from the back made his way to the edge of the box before firing with his weaker right foot.A minute later Abdul Shakun also hit a shot from inside the box, missing by few inches.Asuman also tried his luck from distance before Alladoh rounded Samartex goalie Kofi Baah but his final touch was cleared out.Accra Lions’ domimance paid off moments before half time after Abdul Shakun poked home from a Fuzy Taylor cross.After the break, the goal scorer nearly doubled the lead with a header from a Baba Apiiga corner.Samartex recovered halfway into the second half with midfielder Lord Adabo firing from distance to mark the visitors first shot in the game.Lucky Nwafor, who replaced Alladoh in the second half had two quick chances but was denied by the Samartex goalkeeper.The visitors then took advantage of a late onslaught to equalise after Afful rose high to head home from a cross from the right.
