2021 AFCON Qualifier: Ghanaians react to Black Stars loss against Sudan; coach Akonnor’s tactical acumen under the microscope
Several Ghanaians have expressed their displeasure over the Black Stars poor performance in the 1-0 defeat against Sudan in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday. The West Africa giants needed a victory to join Senegal as the second nation to book their ticket to the 2021 continental football showpiece in Cameroon. However, a last-gasp header by Mohammed Abdul Rahman ensured the Secretary-birds picked a vital win in the push for qualification. Many Ghanaians took to social media to vent their frustrations over the team’s performance in the match, with some even making reference to coach Charles Akonnor’s poor record in away matches.A section of the fans also questioned the former Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko coach’s tactical awareness.Below are reactions from social media; It is the Black Stars first defeat of the qualifiers after three straight victories.Nine points from three games meant Charles Akonnor’s side would have become the third country to qualify had they drew or won against Sudan. The defeat doesn’t change the fact they can still qualify. All the Black Stars have to do is avoid defeat in the remaining games against South Africa (away) and Sao Tome and Principe (home).
