Nigeria head coach, Samson
Siasia, has expressed
satisfaction with the goalless
draw his side got in
Tuesday’s international
friendly with Ghana at the
Vicarage Road, Watford in
London.
The troubled Super Eagles’
manager believes it was an
improved performance than
Saturday’s 2012 Africa Cup of
Nations qualifier against
Guinea, which ended 2 – 2.
The draw against Guinea at
the weekend ended Nigeria’s
dream of qualifying for the
Afcon – the first in 25 years.
Siasia said his players created
the “better chances” against
the Black Stars of Ghana.
The former Nigerian Under20
and Under23 national team
coach dismissed the draw as
being a consolation for
missing out on the Afcon
scheduled to hold in
Equatorial Guinea and Gabon
next year.
“We had better chances at
goal and we are happy that
we didn’t lose. I don’t think
there’s any consolation that
we didn’t make the Nations
Cup,” he said.
The 44-year-old coach, who
has come under fire
following Nigeria’s failure to
qualify for the Afcon, gave
his men a pass mark for
acquitting themselves well
against their rivals, the Black
Stars.
Siasia said: “At least the
players showed that they are
good. The players have
shown that every
opportunity that they get,
they need to prove
themselves and I’m proud of
that.”
The Nigeria Football
Federation (NFF) technical
committee will meet on
Thursday to determine the
future of Siasia.
