The Senate President, David
Mark has inaugurated the
Nigerian branch of
International Students
Parliament, as a way of
bringing together Nigerian
students and those of other
nations, to enhance effective
development of the youths.
Speaking at the ceremony in
Abuja recently, Mark who
was represented by Senator
Ime Ekaette said the
parliament would bring about
a lot of interaction and
exchange programmes, and
except the Nigerian students
come together as a group
and are recognised by the
government, it would be
very difficult for them to
access some of the
government policies that
were available for them.
She said, “The new
International Student
Parliament is set up to forge
a common cooperation and
integration among students
across the globe, which can
also act as an instrument for
rebranding and remoulding
the youth as they are still
young and vibrant.  ”
He advised the students to
brace up to the challenges
ahead of them, as they were
expected to keep to the
tenets of the parliament.
According to him, it would
equip them with leadership
skills for the betterment of
the society.  Mark who
observed the differences
between human rights and
decency, stressed the need
for students to be upright,
noting that the advocacy for
a bill to proscribe nudity
among the youths was
geared towards having a
change of attitude among
them
President of the Nigerian
International Students
Parliament, Mr.  Smart
Olalekan said the body was
set up primarily to harness
the potentials of Nigerian
students abroad for them to
contribute to the
development of the country.
He assured the gathering
that the parliament will not
loose its focus, as the body
was meant to bring together
a spectrum of future
intellectuals and
professionals on how they
can key into and contribute
to the development of the
country.  The association is
also to be inaugurated
across the country.
